"He is listed in the New York city directories from 1854-55 to May 1, 1858 as a mathematical instrument maker. There is an advertisement in the May 1, 1858 that he is a maker of mathematical instruments. From May 1, 1859 to 1864-65 he is listed as an optician. In the 1897 directory he is listed in Clermont, New Jersey. In 1900 Alexander Shaw is listed as his successor in the New York city directory." Reference: Smart, Charles E.
