Dwight Tallent of Oklahoma is the proud owner of a compass with an untold mysterious past.  As with the other "mystery compass" featured on our website, this compass was also found hidden in a wall of a house and was discovered by construction workers during demolition.  Again, the original purpose for putting the compass in the wall remains a mystery.

A card enclosed with the compass in its walnut box indicates that the surveyor, O. D. Smalley, settled in the Des Moines Township in 1846.

The compass was made by B. Pike of New York and is estimated to be manufactured in the early 1840's.
